Subconscious minds
If you’ve ever used the term ‘back of my mind’, you’ll be able to relate to this article very much.
Our subconscious is a very active part of our lives; in fact, it may be more effective than our conscious minds. The things we put in the back of our minds have a way of resurfacing periodically, and when they do, they catch us off guard.
Have you ever felt something is ‘off’ or bothering you, but you can’t quite place your finger on it? Well, those are tricks played by your subconscious too. But this feeling of something being wrong is not a hoax, rather it’s your mind’s way of reiterating things that you’ve cast aside at some point.
Types of negative emotions
Stress and anxiety are also examples of our subconscious tendencies. At times you may not feel actively stressed or anxious, but these feelings are passive parts of our lives which in a way guide us.
There is the differentiation between health negative and unhealthy negative emotions which is dictated by the power we give our subconscious mind over our actions and emotions. The former will create a positive sense of control and will instigate a drive to improve, while the latter can only be called self-sabotage.
Now, it’s nearly impossible to not have unhealthy negative emotions, but if we can consciously strike a balance between healthy negative emotions and unhealthy negative emotions then we can create a good environment to drive progress. In cases such as these, our subconscious takes the wheel, and sudden changes in our mood, like going from being happy to being irritable and anxious are when we let the subconscious invade our consciousness. When unhealthy negative emotions prevail it can lead to digression in several areas such as; beginning to fear something, developing anxiety, associating stress with a particular situation, etc.
I’ll be honest, gaining control over your subconscious is an extremely difficult task, which not everyone needs to do. Our minds can be balanced between conscious and subconscious if only we were to actively engage in the process of thinking. The things we put in the backs of our minds are most likely going to come to our attention now and then, but not letting our unhealthy negative emotion-driven thoughts overpower our lives is going to help us to not fall prey to these situations.
Addressing subconscious issues
When you feel something subconsciously it can affect your active lives. That’s when you need to address the negative thoughts at the back of your mind with utmost awareness. If you succeed in addressing the issue you’re already halfway there. Lastly, you need to choose what you want to feel per your situation. Take the reins in your hands and make choices that determine how much of a role you let your subconscious play in your active life.
This will allow you to cope with unhealthy negative emotions and be better prepared when it comes to dealing with “back of the mind” issues.
Conclusion
So I’m not saying that after reading this article you’ll wake up tomorrow and suddenly be able to distinguish the conscious and subconscious, or that you’ll be able to strike a balance between unhealthy negative emotions and healthy negative emotions. I’ll even admit to the fact that although I try my best to shed light on these concepts I myself struggle with applying them more often than I actually use them.
There are many processes that we can’t play an active role in but that doesn’t mean that we don’t bother trying to understand them. Some things can’t be left as passive because if we do so it would mean letting go of our control over our own emotions and our own lives.
